Westsiders: catch Brick + Beam with a table at this convention aimed at preserving West side community & culture by connecting residents to resources!
In early 2019, after a number of years of grassroots community preservation efforts, Detroit Sound Conservancy (DSC) purchased The Legendary Blue Bird Inn and are earnestly rehabilitating the site. But our efforts will be in vain if our neighbors — including local block clubs, churches, businesses, residents, and artists — are not able to maintain and preserve their own West Side homes, buildings, streets, and legacy.
Building upon similar neighborhood placekeeping music projects like the Memphis Slim House in Memphis, Tennessee and the Turf Club in Asbury Park, New Jersey, DSC is committed to leveraging our partners and volunteers to assist our neighbors in preserving and celebrating Detroit’s Old West side.
In that spirit, DSC, sponsored by Preservation Detroit (PD), and in collaboration with Ark of Deliverance Church, Larchmont Community Association, and United Block Club, will convene a resource day for the West Side.
DSC and our partners seek additional sponsors and partners to help address immediate needs and issues related to keeping and growing our West Side community, especially groups and organizations that can provide information on direct assistance to keeping residents in their homes, providing in-kind and grant assistance for home upkeep, and leadership around growing businesses, navigating City bureaucracy, and preserving neighborhood cultural legacy and memory.
