ABOUT: Brick + Beam Detroit will present a four-part, in-person educational series on Racism in Property Ownership in Detroit. Online blogs and videos on our website will supplement the in-person series with additional resources to call for awareness and change today.
Urban Renewal - City/Federal Programs from Recent Past and Today
Building upon the first conversation, this multi-speaker talk will explore further how federally-funded programs like Urban Renewal displaced primarily Black residents from their homes and decimated Detroit neighborhoods that were rich with culture, businesses, and families. The lasting impacts of these programs are still seen on the ground today through eminent domain, Hardest Hit Funds, and other programs. The speakers will also showcase what Detroiters and other cities are doing to heal from these discriminatory acts.
Speakers:
Jamon Jordan, The Black Scroll Network
Meghan Courtney, Outreach Archivist at Wayne State University
Modorator: Dr. Alaina Jackson, Community Experience and Research Lead for Ford AV/Mobility's City:One Team and Principal at Cooperative Community Consultants, LLC
DATE: Thursday, May 26th at 6:30 PM
LOCATION: The Commons, 7900 Mack Avenue
All four events are free and open to the public, although a $10 suggested donation is appreciated. RSVP Encouraged!
