What we'll cover:

  • An overview of the Burton Historical Collection from a Librarian
  • Group sessions and hands-on research with Sanborne Maps, Directories, and Card Catalogs
  • Navigating other resources at the City & County where you can look up property records

Brick + Beam, Preservation Detroit, Book Suey, and representatives from the City of Detroit will be there to help you use the resources.

Please bring your own laptop if you're able to in order to access certain resources.

This event is $5 for Detroit Residents & $10 for Metro Detroit Residents

About the Burton Historical Collection:

The Burton Historical Collection (BHC) of the Detroit Public Library began as the private library of Clarence Monroe Burton, a prominent attorney and Detroit historiographer. Mr. Burton’s original intention was to assemble a collection on the history of Detroit. Realizing that Detroit’s history was inextricably connected to that of Michigan and the Old Northwest, Canada and New France, he assembled a collection that is one of the most important private historical collections in the country.
