Get educated about lead! Let's dig into understanding lead risks and how to maintain a healthy home. 

What we'll cover: 

  • A broader view of the state of Detroit's Housing stock, and findings from Joshua Akers' recent report "Toxic structures: Speculation and lead exposure in Detroit’s single-family rental market"
  • Where lead exists in the home, what to look out for, and risks that could lead to elevated blood levels of lead
  • If you are working on your house, how to work lead-safe and the types of precautions and materials you should be using*
    *Note that this is not a lead certification course!

ABOUT THE PANELISTS

Rashard Montgomery is a State Certified Lead Professional who helps property owners,
industrial manufacturers and municipalities identify lead-based paint and lead components.
Before starting RSM LEAD INSPECTION, Rashard worked for 10 years as a construction site
manager and plumber with his family's federal procurement business.
When he is not working on RSM projects, Rashard enjoys creating art, graphic design
and volunteering for community events. Rashard is available for lead inspection services and private consultations. 
 

Joshua Akers, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor of Geography and Urban & Regional Studies at University of Michigan-Dearborn. Akers' research and writing examines the intersection of markets and policy and their material impacts on urban neighborhoods and everyday life. He is particularly interested in the transition of property markets in the wake of the financial crisis. He works directly with organizations and activists focused on housing and tenancy issues in Detroit. He developed a web mapping tool to assist communities working to slow speculation and its effects on local neighborhoods-- propertypraxis.org
