Do you know if your property or the property you are working on is located within one of Detroit’s 140 local historic districts? Whether listed individually or as part of a larger neighborhood boundary, properties in local historic districts are required to obtain approval from the Historic District Commission before a permit can be issued for any exterior modification. Learn more about how/why historic districts are created and what specific criteria is used to evaluate building permit applications. Throughout this course, Detroit-based examples and visuals will be used to illustrate how to best navigate the regulatory review process to get your project started!
