Intro to Wood Windows, Digital Class

Have you wondered about the old wood windows in your home? Maybe you’d like to know the names of all those different parts? What does it take to restore a window? This lecture-style class is a way for you to dip your toes into the complicated world of window restoration! 

What we’ll cover in this class:

• Deserve to Preserve-- why should I keep my wood windows? 
• Parts of wood windows
• Other types of historic windows common in Detroit
• Tools of the trade
• High level overview of the steps of fixing wood windows

SKILL LEVEL: Beginner

About the Facilitator:

Phil Mayo is a partner at Place Restoration Works, also working as an independent contractor in Detroit doing exterior restoration and maintenance. He restores windows in his spare time. A painter by trade, Phil has been involved in preservation trades since relocating to Detroit in 2015. He is a member of the National Association of Window Restoration Specialists and an affiliate of the Window Preservation Alliance. When he’s not making old things new, Phil enjoys running, reading and supporting Tottenham Hotspur.
