Three local historic preservation organizations will partner with Building Hugger to host Building Hugger's third annual Community Mingle at their ‘Hug Factory’ in Eastern Market. The free event will take place Saturday, March 30 from 11 A.M. - 3 P.M.

Building Hugger owner Amy Swift will lead a window restoration overview, which is the company’s focus, and introduce the company’s lineup of storm window product offerings. As a co-chair of Michigan Young Preservation, Swift will also introduce an exciting statewide effort launching in April that is set to organize and encourage early participation in preservation for young adults in major markets throughout the state.
During the event, partner orgs, Brick + Beam Detroit, Preservation Detroit, and the Michigan Historic Preservation Network will share recent preservation updates. Preservation Detroit will provide an update on the Mackenzie House and future organizational plans. Plus, Meet our new B+BD Executive Director, Alissa Shelton, who will share organizational updates about B+BD’s growth.Staff from all three organizations will be available to share more about their work and ways to get involved.
Chris Hewitt of My Old House "Fix" blog and online community will have a Q&A corner alongside staff from the City of Detroit Historic District Commission.
Of course, Building Hugger crew will also be stationed throughout the workshop to answer renovation questions. If you are interested in getting more involved in Building Hugger:

  • Guests can also schedule estimates with office staff.

"Every year the Community Mingle is a co-mingling of all kinds of people that love their old homes and their neighborhood communities," said Swift. "We are excited to be able to bring in our local preservation partners to showcase the work they do for Detroit and Detroiters, and to give thanks to our supporters for helping us through another big year. It'll be a fun day."
