Appliance clearances
Need help? ALWAYS talk to the appliance install manager at company
Preparation:
Appliances, sinks, faucets, garbage disposal on site
Don’t rely on printed specifications, supplied templates, etc.
Adequate space
Dishwashers:
ALWAYS leave 24” (or 18”) for opening
Custom panels: pull rest of the cabinets off the wall enough for the DW panel to line up with the cabinets
If floor is not installed yet: make sure there will be enough room (height) for DW once the floor is installed
Stoves:
You must know size and type of stove before you can install surrounding cabinets.
Sizes are: 24”, 30”, 36” or 48”
Stove Types:
Freestanding Stove:
Always leave 1/8”-1/4” clearance
Slide-ins (island):
Most difficult to install properly - flange at top sides that overlap the counter and surrounding cabinets
Cabinets must be same height from side to side and flush across the front
Restaurant style: (Wolf, Viking, etc)
Can weigh upwards of 400 lbs - floor must be well supported
Cook tops: Cut into countertop
Range tops: (7-9” high)
Sits on a base cabinet - usually are drawer cabinet that has been modified or built to 26”
Reinforce (e.g. solid top, additional panel) to support the weight
Hoods: 30”or 36” are most common.
The heights and depths vary
Make sure the motor can be accessed without removing cabinet (code)
Know the ducting plan before you install the cabinet
Cut hole, and create chase for ducting before cabinet is installed
Most hoods are installed with bottom edge 60” above floor
Double-check plans to verify
Refrigerators:
Always, always, always read the specifications
Some fridges require a lot of clearance and air space
“Zero clearance” require minimal clearance
Refrigerator types:
Freestanding:
Install side panels for a more finished look
Panel size: depth of fridge plus 1” for air gap --25”-29”, which is nice for the counter to die into
Built-in:
Flanges overlap necessary panels on either side.
Trim piece or cabinet fills space at top
Integrated:
custom panels that match cabinets.
Door fronts or custom panels are flush with cabinets
