Unable to get approved for mortgage, we opted to pay cash for a fixer upper and finance the renovation. We were referred by a friend, who knew the owners were looking to sell despite the home being off market. We loved the floor plan, the staircase, and the exterior woodwork details around the second story windows. So far, we've replaced the boiler and scheduled the windows/roof replacement. We're looking forward to inside updates and hoping to preserve as much of the original charm as possible.
We have hired a company to replace the boiler and inspect the radiators. We are waiting for the weather to warm up before replacing all the windows and the roof. Prior to all this snowfall we started cutting down the overgrown bushes and vines, and we've cleared all the clutter in the basement and in the backyard. We're eager to do as much as possible on our own, but we're super limited in our knowledge, so we'll be deferring to friends and recommended contractors for many of the projects.
