Earlier this year, Nintendo confirmed plans for the Switch 2 and promised a formal announcement before the end of fiscal year 2025, which ends March 31, 2025. However, as 2024 comes to a close, excitement for the Switch 2 has been building, along with an increase in related rumors.

A recent rumor suggested that Nintendo could reveal the Switch 2 in January 2025, with a possible March 2025 launch, similar to the 2017 release strategy for the original Switch. New data has surfaced that appears to support this theory. Universo Nintendo recently reported on shipment data shared by Famiboards forum user LiC, which indicated that Nvidia delivered over 836,000 units of its T239 chipset to a Nintendo-contracted manufacturer in Vietnam in September 2024.

The Nvidia T239 SoC (system on a chip) is widely expected to power the Switch 2, and the shipment data suggests that key components for the console have been in mass production since at least September 2024. Additionally, the data reveals that large quantities of other vital Switch 2 components, such as RAM modules (803,500 units from Micron, Samsung, and Hynix) and UFS storage (290,000 units from Kioxia and Hynix), have also been dispatched.

Universo Nintendo predicts that another component shipment report will be released in early December, potentially providing further insight into Nintendo's plans for mass manufacturing the Switch 2. Previous reports have suggested that Nintendo is working to avoid the stock shortages that plagued the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S at launch, which could push the Switch 2's release beyond March 2025.
