Baldur’s Gate 3 has recently received a fresh story quest, thanks to the efforts of a talented modder. Since mods became available for all platforms, BG3 has seen an influx of new content, with modders expanding the game in creative ways. Initially, Larian Studios had claimed that modding would be limited to new classes, character features, and cosmetic items, with no story content supported. However, modders have managed to circumvent these restrictions, resulting in the creation of new narrative-driven mods now available on Nexus Mods and the official mod manager.

One standout mod, titled "Features from DnD Spelljammer," was uploaded to Nexus Mods by bibsan. This mod introduces several elements from the Dungeons & Dragons Spelljammer setting, enhancing BG3 with not just new items, enemies, and backgrounds, but also an entirely new quest in Act 3. The quest begins when players purchase the title deed to a Space Galleon from Popper at the Circus of the Last Days, which transports Tav and their party to the Astral Sea. Players can explore a small portion of this new area before returning to the main storyline.

Though brief, the quest has significant lore implications and hints at a growing trend in the modding community, suggesting potential game-changing mods for BG3 in the future.

The Spelljammer mod also adds new features at character creation, such as two new backgrounds: Astral Drifter, which grants permanent Advantage on Wisdom saving throws, and Wildspacer, which provides extra hit points per level. Additionally, new spells like air bubble and Spelljamming Helm attunement, available to artificers, are included, alongside integration with KiderionLykon’s mod to add the artificer class to the game.

As players progress, they’ll acquire new items, including a Scroll of Summon Giant Space Hamster, a gythka polearm, and various Talarith armor pieces. A set of custom Spelljammer-themed dice, which glow like stars in the Astral Sea, is also included.

The new quest gives players control over a Space Galleon, along with a small new map. Players will encounter new Astral Plane-themed enemies, such as Space Hamsters, Eye Mongers, and githyanki pirates. Notably, the Space Galleon can be upgraded, and after the quest, it can be summoned to aid players in main-game battles, with upgrades like ballistae and cannons enabling aerial strikes on Baldur's Gate.

The Spelljammer mod is a spectacular example of the immense potential of BG3 modding. It suggests that story content can indeed be added, opening the door for even more expansive mods in the future. Modders are already working on additional projects, such as a new Underdark area between Acts 2 and 3, developed by Lotrich3 on Reddit.

Given that modding tools have only been publicly available for a few months, the future of Baldur’s Gate 3 mods looks incredibly promising. As time goes on, players may be able to craft entirely new campaigns for BG3, including total conversion mods that introduce new characters, settings, and conflicts. The possibilities are limitless, much like what Enderal achieved with Skyrim. Before long, players could create custom Dungeons & Dragons campaigns within Baldur’s Gate 3.
